The New York Hall of Science and PowerUpTheGame.org recognize the importance of protecting information we may collect from visitors to this site. This privacy statement describes the privacy practices for the www.powerupthegame.org site. We intend to give you as much control as possible over your personal information. In general, you can, and we encourage you to visit PowerUpTheGame.org without revealing any information about yourself.

New York Hall of Science PowerUpTheGame.org is a licensee of the TRUSTe Children’s Privacy Program. TRUSTe is an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is to build users’ trust and confidence in the Internet by promoting the use of fair information practices. Because this site wants to demonstrate its commitment to your privacy, it has agreed to disclose its information practices and have its privacy practices reviewed for compliance by TRUSTe. In particular, by displaying the TRUSTe children’s seal, this web site has agreed to disclose its privacy practices and adhere to the TRUSTe Children’s Seal Program when attempting to collect or use information from children under 13.

The Information We Collect and How We Use It

The website does not seek to collect personally identifying information, except with your specific knowledge and consent. For example, when you seek to contact us through our web form, you will be asked to provide your e-mail address.

If you give us personal information about yourself in your correspondence with us we will only respond to your request for information as you indicate. This information is not used for any other purpose. If you use our web form to send us an electronic communication through our 'Contact Us' page, you will have to give us your e-mail address if you would like us to reply to you. After we reply, we will delete your e-mail address from our files within a reasonable time period.

Like most standard Web site servers we use log files which capture certain information about visitors to the website, including:

  • Internet protocol (IP) addresses: an IP address is automatically assigned to your computer when you log onto the Internet. Your IP address can be either “static” or “dynamic.” Typically, IP addresses are not personally identifiable, but they static IP addresses may be in some instances;
  • browser type (e.g., Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer);
  • Internet service provider (ISP) (e.g., AOL or Comcast);
  • referring/exit pages (the page you clicked from to get to powerupthegame.org);
  • platform type (i.e., Windows XP or Mac OS X);
  • date/time stamp (i.e., when you visited the website); and
  • number of clicks.

The logs are used to analyze trends, administer the site, and track users’ movement in the aggregate. We do not try to identify individuals from logs.

Security and Not Sharing

We take precautions to keep secure the user information you give us and we will not disclose that information to anyone else for any reason, except in the case of law enforcement requests as described above. Of course, no computer network or stored information can ever be fully protected against every possible hazard. We employ reasonable physical, electronic and managerial safeguards appropriate for the type of data in question to protect the website and all associated data from unauthorized access, and ensure the appropriate use of information.

Cookies

“Cookies” are small pieces of information that are placed by a website in a folder on your computer. PowerUpTheGame.org currently uses cookies only to collect statistics on repeat site visitation (third party cookies through our web statistics software, Google Analytics) and as a placeholder for reloading settings on a particular page when you return to it. No personal information of any kind is gathered through the use of cookies, nor is personal information tied to the use of cookies while on our site. You need not accept cookies, but if you have your browser set to refuse cookies, some portions of the website may not function properly.

Notification of Changes

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on our privacy policy page and an announcement of changes to the policy on the homepage, so you can always have up to date information as to what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.

If we were to start using personal information from children in any new manner we would obtain verifiable parental consent prior to any use of that information. Verifiable consent is obtained through offline methods such as through a signed permission slip to make sure we are getting consent from the parent.

Special Note to Parents

We also recognize the importance of protecting information we may collect from children who visit this site. If your child provides us with his or her e-mail address in order to make an inquiry through our 'Contact Us' link, then we will use your child’s e-mail address only to make a one-time response to that request for information, after which the e-mail address will be deleted. Similarly, your child has no opportunity to provide personal information other than by contacting use. This site does not solicit or require registration or the submission of personal information in order to utilize the site or PowerUp game.

Parents have the right to review any personal information that is collected from their child if it has not already been completely deleted from our systems. You can do this by contacting us at the address below.

Parents have the right to have personal information collected from the child deleted, or refuse further collection and use by using the contact information below and requesting deletion.
